  • Eligibility
    3rd-year students (Exchange students and current students on leave are also eligible)
  • Application period
    Every October ~ November
  • Documents

    Submit to the department office (weekdays 9:30~17:00)

    • 1 copy of the transcript
    • 1 copy of the JLPT certificate
    • 1 copy of the study plan
  • Screening process
    Document screening and written examination (interview in some cases)
  • Written examination date
    To be announced after the deadline (subject to change)
  • Eligible universities
    Public universities in Japan will be prioritized.
  • Remarks
    The main examination (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology) will be held in March of the following year.

Embassy of Japan Scholarship Application Guidelines (Overview)

Eligibility and Conditions (For details, please refer to the attached application guidelines and the related website http:kr.emb-japan.go.jp) 

  • Age: Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old and have Korean nationality.
  • Educational background: Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program related to Japanese language or culture (Japanese language, Japanese studies, Japanese education, Japanese language, etc.) for at least one year.( Students with a double major, minor, or similar major are not eligible.)
  • Period: Every year from October to September (no more than one year, no extension)
  • Scholarship: Please refer to the application guidelines (average monthly payment of 134,000 yen and tuition exemption, etc.)
  • Number of applicants: 1 from each Japanese-related department at each university

  • Application deadline and written examination deadline :
    • Application deadline: Every year around March 3rd - March 5th (registration until 17:00)
      • Documents: 1 recommendation letter, 1 school transcript, 1 transcript
      • Documents 2: Self-introduction file and department introduction file sent by email (japanmext@yahoo.co.kr)
    • Written examination schedule: Every year around March 11 (14:00 - 17:00) Japanese written examination
  • Interview: Only for less than 40 applicants who passed the written test
