• AIE6064 Understanding of German Masterpieces

  In this course, students will read, discuss, and write about selected works of German literature that are essential for students majoring in German Language & Literature
  The course broadens the scope of literary understanding and lays the foundation for studying German literature by experiencing various periods and genres.

• AIE6067 Understanding of Contemporary German Society

  This course will select Germany's most critical issues: environmental issues, the reunification debate, multicultural society, and the European Union. Students will be introduced to and understand today's Germany by analyzing and diagnosing them.
  The focus will be on the German tradition of a critical and participatory society, which will be examined and compared with Korean society's problems.

  This course integrates cultural and regional studies by comprehensively covering the culture and arts of the German-speaking region (Germany, Austria, and parts of Switzerland) in connection with regional affairs.

  This course is a grammatical complement to German conversation and practice. It covers an overview of all areas of German grammar to improve sentence analysis, reading comprehension, and conversational and writing skills.

  In this class, students will read a selection of essential prose texts by representative authors to improve reading comprehension and identify common features and problems in German literature.

• AIE6018 Introduction to German Linguistics

  In this course, students will learn the fundamental theories and methods for analyzing and describing German publicly and diachronically, and understand the concepts of technical terms.

• AIE6076 German Life and Popular Culture

  This course explores culture as a "way of life" for Germans. We will explore the daily lives of ordinary Germans living in the present day, ritual culture, festivals and everyday life, leisure culture, and examine the process of culture production and consumption in various areas of mainstream media. Through comparisons with the lives of Korean people, students will expand their understanding of cultural diversity and relativity.

  This course covers the history and basic theories of media development. It critically examines important cultural phenomena in audio and media to understand contemporary media, including photography, radio, television, computers, and film.

  This course examines the politics, economics, history, geography, and culture of the German-speaking countries (Germany, Switzerland, and Austria) to provide students with a basic understanding of the region. It will also cover similarities and differences with other European cultures and provide an overview of European cultural knowledge.

  This course provides an understanding of Germanic literature from the Germanic period to Romanticism, focusing on major authors and topics, and identifies the historical background and characteristics of literary periods.

  This course explores German culture from a linguistic perspective in a variety of ways. The students will learn about the history and characteristics of the German language, the status of the German language, and various linguistic phenomena in contemporary German culture and acquire basic knowledge to study German literature.

• AIE6068 German Literature and Film

  In this class, we will select a movie with an original text, read the original text, and watch the film to identify the differences, similarities, and characteristics of print and video media. Students will be introduced to the narrative techniques of these media to enhance their understanding of both media and their mutual applicability.

  This course is a continuation of German Conversation (2) and Practice in German (2) and introduces German conversation and grammar equivalent to the fundamental part of the Common European Framework of Reference for Language B1.

  Students will learn about the characteristics of German fiction and develop the ability to evaluate works by analyzing short and long stories written by representative authors with a critical perspective and introducing literary methodology.

  This course selects an essential period amongst the various periods of German literature and studies representative works from that period. Students will be able to recognize an era's general trends and characteristics and understand the relationship between history, trends, and literature.

  This course critically re-examines the cultural history of Germany from the perspective of gender, an important keyword for understanding contemporary European culture.
  We will explore the role of female representations in literature and art in the evolution of German civil society by exploring specific works and comparing them with male and female representations in contemporary German and Korean culture.

  This course aims to provide students with an integrated understanding of the politics, economy, and culture of the European region. In particular, students will learn about the nationalities of European countries, urban life, sports and leisure, culture in general, and economic activities to find new cultural, political, and economic possibilities for the European region. Students will also learn about the system and role of the European Union.

  In this class, students will study the mechanisms and contents of the cultural industry through pop songs, creative writing, publishing, performing arts, video, animation, newspapers, television, and computer games. Through cultural creation and distribution, they will investigate and explore various indicators, strategies, and phenomena related to the cultural industry.

  This course focuses on specialized trade and business terminology used in commerce with the German-speaking region. It will also cover conversational exercises regarding trade practices, such as trade negotiations and procedures.

  European culture has been compared to a building built on three pillars: ancient Greek-Roman, Christian, and Germanic.
  By examining the Greek mythological world as the foundation of European history, culture, and the European spirit, we will explore the influence of this mythological world on later European literature, culture, and European sentiment, as well as examine the connections between mythology and modern civilization.

• AIE6070 German Performing Arts

  We'll review representative German-language plays and theater theories from Lessing to Brecht to the present day and explore the staging of plays with specific examples. Students will also learn about the performing arts in contemporary Germany, including Tanztheater, ballet, opera, mime, and cabaret.

  This course is designed to give students a basic understanding of the humanities, including the human spirit, culture, and history, and the ability to reflect on and criticize contemporary culture based on humanistic perspectives and methodologies.

  This course provides an overview of European history and culture, focusing on German-speaking and French-speaking regions, from the Greek and Roman periods to the recent EU. It will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of past and present Europe.

  By reading articles and editorials in German newspapers and magazines on various topics, students will acquire unique German expressions and terminology and gain information on the latest German trends.

• AIE6042 Special Lectures on German Linguistics

  The course covers topics of particular interest in German linguistics, including phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics.

• AIE6080 Seminar on German Poetry

  In this course, we will select important poetry from the Baroque to the 19th century and discuss it alongside corresponding poetic theory.

  In this course, we invite representatives of the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea or local companies (or European cultural organizations: German Cultural Center, French Cultural Center, British Council, etc.). Students can get practical experience and feel the reality of European customs that they have learned indirectly and theoretically.

  In this course, students will learn the essential principles of translation and then practice translating ordinary and practical texts from German to Korean and Korean to German.

  In this course, students will learn German, commonly used in various fields such as politics, economics, society, and culture, and how to write commercial texts such as newsletters, resumes, and other official documents.
