Goals

To reflect the characteristics of the academic field and meet the needs of the country and the local community, the Dept. of Chemistry at Incheon National University aims to "develop expert personnel who master the basic theories and principles of all fields of chemistry and have the ability to apply them and conduct creative research actively".

Chemistry is a branch of the basic sciences that seeks to understand natural phenomena based on the fundamental principles and theories of science that have been discovered and established over time.
Chemistry is a discipline with many subfields, including physical chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and analytical chemistry, that are closely related and require knowledge and understanding across these subfields.
Based on the characteristics of these fields of study, the Dept. of Chemistry at Incheon National University combines education and research in various areas of chemistry.

The undergraduate program focuses on building expertise in chemistry by taking lectures and labs in traditional majors such as physical chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and analytical chemistry, as well as in newer areas of chemistry such as biochemistry, polymer chemistry, and environmental chemistry.
In the third and fourth years, many students also develop their professional research skills by participating in research activities in their supervisors' laboratories in a wide range of chemistry fields, including organic synthesis, inorganic synthesis, spectroscopy, theoretical chemistry, bio, nano, energy, catalysis, and environmental fields.

In the graduate program, students develop their capabilities as chemistry students with creative research skills required by the modern scientific and technological society through research activities in the laboratories of their supervisors.
Under the guidance of experienced faculty mentors, the main focus of the graduate program at Incheon National University is not only to provide students with a foundation by acquiring a broad intellectual awareness of advanced research covering many areas of chemistry, but also to develop their versatility and confidence as independent research scientists.
