Mathematics has long been recognized as the most effective way to research different phenomenon and complex relationships that have been developed as the mankind evolved. Recently, the field has been highlighted as a major component for national competitiveness by playing a key role in the development of advanced and convergent technologies.
Although the field of Mathematics can be mainly divided into pure mathematics and applied mathematics, no clear differences between the two fields exist because applied mathematics has its basis on pure mathematics.
The Department of Mathematics educates students in Algebra, Geometry, Analytics, Topology, Probability, and Statistics under the goal of cultivating creative individuals with a deep understanding of mathematical principles. At the same time, the department has been providing education befitting our times by extensively dealing with Applied Mathematics with applications in computers.

Career opportunities after graduation
In the past, after graduation, most students entered the educational world and computing division of business entities. However, lately, there has been a gradual increase in entering the finance fields such as banks, insurance companies and stock firms and general enterprises’ sales and planning departments.
Many are working as professors and researchers in universities and laboratories after achieving master’s and doctorate degrees by majoring in fields that are based on mathematics such as computer, statistics, economics and business management. Also, one can go to graduate school of education to obtain a secondary teaching certificate.
