Participatory programs covering career guidance, culture, and hands-on experiences… putting the “Incheon-style RISE model” into practice
Incheon National University held the “Yeonsu-gu Overseas Koreans and Multicultural Families Invitation Day at Incheon National University” on January 10 in cooperation with the Yeonsu-gu Family Center, inviting 190 participants from overseas Korean and multicultural families to take part in education-, culture-, and career-oriented experiential programs.
Reflecting the characteristics of the Incheon region, which has the third-largest multicultural population nationwide, the event was designed as a regional partnership program that utilizes the university’s human and physical resources. Families from 11 countries, including China, Japan, Vietnam, the Philippines, and the United States, participated in the event.
The program began with a cheerleading performance by Incheon National University’s cheering squad, “Couple Lions,” followed by a briefing on the establishment of a public medical school and a career talk by former KBS N Sports announcer Sung-cheol Kang. A total of 108 participants voluntarily took part in a signature campaign in support of establishing the public medical school.
One participating parent shared, “I was impressed that such a well-organized program was prepared even on a Saturday, and everyone involved in running the event was very kind. It was a meaningful day to see my children enjoying the activities and gaining hope and motivation.”
In the afternoon, group-based programs received enthusiastic responses, including experiential everyday science activities such as drone soccer, AI auto-robots, VR 3D art, and science magic, as well as MBTI assessments, everyday legal education, career exploration sessions, and an Incheon National University admissions briefing.
President In-jae Lee of Incheon National University stated, “Incheon National University is a university that grows together with the local community based on academic and cultural diversity,” adding, “Through continued partnership with overseas Koreans and multicultural families in Yeonsu-gu, we will build a warm and inclusive regional innovation model.”
In a congratulatory address, Young-shin Joo, Director of the Yeonsu-gu Family Center, said, “I sincerely thank Incheon National University for preparing such meaningful and engaging programs for multicultural families,” and added, “I applaud the university for growing together with local residents and becoming a source of pride for the community.”
Jin-bae Hong, Director of the Office of International and External Affairs at Incheon National University, commented, “This event is an example of putting the Incheon-style RISE model into practice by adding a humanistic touch through cooperation between the university and local institutions,” adding, “We will continue to expand win-win programs in which the university and the region grow together.”
