History

Established as the Dept. of Clothing and Textiles within the College of Natural Sciences in 1989, the department changed its name into the Dept. of Fashion & Industry in 2002. Until now, over 700 students have graduated from the department. In 1998, the Dept. of Textiles and Fashion was established in the Graduate School while the Dept. of Clothing and Textiles was recently created as the Masters Program in 2001 and as a Doctoral Program in 2005. The Dept. of Fashion & Industry here at INU was the first‐ever domestic fashion related department to start an international academic exchange program. By finalizing an agreement for academic exchange with the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology in 1997, both institutions were involved in Korea‐China joint fashion shows and joint international seminars. Student exchange between the two institutions began with the agreement for student exchange programs finalized in 2002

As of 2013, four Korea‐China joint fashion shows as well as numerous joint seminars have been conducted. In addition, more than 35 students have participated in the exchange program. Such level of international exchange is expected to grow in the future. The Dept. of Fashion & Industry endeavors to cultivate fashion leaders possessing creativity, practicality, and an international presence to actively respond to market changes and a social environment characterized by specialization, information and globalization. Consequently, the department aims to provide in‐depth theoretical and practical training on the fashion industry and cultivate leaders with the international presence necessary for the global fashion business through several opportunities of practical, on‐site training. The Dept. of Fashion & Industry here at INU has achieved many outstanding accomplishments through the full support of the university, passionate teaching staff, high‐quality education curriculum, and state of the art educational facilities and equipment. The Dept. of Fashion & Industry continues to globalize our educational curriculum and strive to become the leading department within the Northeast Asian fashion industry by actively attracting numerous overseas students at the undergraduate and graduate programs.
