Career and Vision
Career opportunities after graduation
There are three career paths that the graduates can take.
First, upon completion of the undergraduate program, students may be eligible to obtain the level 1 social welfare licence which is often required to work as social workers at various social service agencies. With endless needs for social services and service providers, potential employment opportunities are greater for social welfare students as the range and kinds of employment opportunities are quite broad from working for child and family service agencies to working as school social workers, medical social workers, and counselors.
Second, graduates can work as high rank public social welfare specialists (7th and 9th). Especially, as citizen autonomy system was introduced as a part of renovation of administration system since late 1990s, autonomous operation of welfare in each district of community is expected to be expanded and the opportunity to be employed as a public official is becoming larger.
At last, graduates can work as members of NGO or civic groups to solve various local community problems. Due to 21st century’s, civic participation and interest in various regional problems and welfare are increasing. Roles of social leaders who can recognize the problems and actively solve them are needed in various fields in our society.

Future Outlook for Students in Department of Social Welfare
Demands for competent social workers are greater than ever in the 21st century. We expect our graduates to build their career in areas beyond the traditional social work, from working for community social service organizations, various health and social service agencies, as well as government agencies to newly developed areas such as corporate social responsibility development, social enterprises, cooperatives, social work/welfare foundations. The opportunities have also become endless as international social workers, and social work practitioners in areas of social service, social care, child and family services are in great demands in foreign countries nearby and far away. We also expect our students to pursue career in academics as they may further their education and training in graduate programs and research institutes expanding their knowledge and skills in social policy development and practice.
