In the Division of Urban Construction Engineering, the 3 majors(architectural engineering, architecture, urban planning) necessary for the creation of sustainable and future-oriented urban∙architectural environment, are integrated based on specialization.
In the architectural engineering, we foster professional engineers with technical abilities and business mindset through a curriculum covering construction management, green construction facility, aseismatic and storm-proof structure, as well as global architects and related professionals possessing the ability to create sustainable architectural and residential environment. In the major of urban planning, we nurture creative urban designers with urban engineering, humanistic and artistic ability. The division focuses on producing practical experts loyal to social demands through such specialized curriculum of each major. On this basis, through a systematic education such as thematic integral education between majors, research oriented curriculum, expansion of the international exchange etc. for an integral expansion of personal ability, we aim to nurture urban and architectural professionals who will lead the creation of future urban and architectural environment.
The field of urban design focuses on the design of physical configuration and urban environment in city space. That is, through comprehensive analysis of city space, this field deals with large, medium, and small-scale planning in the urban environment, ranging from land use to road design and other such public spaces. Thus, urban design deals not only with cities, regional configuration, roads, parks, and other such structural elements which compose the urban environment, but also with the study and practice of humanistic and social elements which are integral to the framework and methodology of city control. Urban design is a field of study which extends far back into history and across both eastern and western cultures. In cities throughout the world, both old and new, we see its historical application and traditions manifest. These traditions span across all major disciplines, including politics, economy, social science, culture, the arts, and engineering. INU’s urban design major is conducted jointly with the architecture major and architectural engineering major, creating an ideal setting for the theoretical and practical cultivation of the human environment. The university is particularly focused on developing an education system to meet the demands for internationalization put forth by its host city, Incheon, which is rapidly growing into a center for business and culture in Northeast Asia. Graduates enter a variety of fields, including city planning, city design, urban reclamation, GIS, architectural landscaping, and other city planning-related areas, and may hold such positions as a professional researcher, business manager, or public official.
