The goal of the Department of German Language and Literature is the cultivation of advanced German scholars with both extensive theoretical knowledge and practical linguistic abilities and, with German language and culture as the basis comprehensive understanding of European culture (including politics, economics, and society) through extensive literature and linguistic studies.
With the establishment of the European commerce joint-major program in 2003, German language and literature students have the opportunity to become European experts through coordinated learning of language and cultural studies with European and German management and trade.
Opportunities in short-term research, European studies programs, and European exchange programs have also been steadily expanding at INU since the establishment of a sister relationship with Göttingen University in 1998, and have become increasingly active with the establishment of a sister relationship with Chemnitz University of Technology in 2007.
