Dr Alan Critchley, Verschuren Centre for Sustainability in Energy and Environment , Canada
Dr Alan Critchley is an adaptive phyconomist with 20 years’ experience as an academic in southern Africa focused on seaweeds. He moved to sustainable and industrial applications of cultivation and applications of seaweeds in early 2000. He is now Research Fellow and consultant working in all aspects of seaweed production and value added applications.

Prof. Alejandro H. Buschmann , Centro I-mar and CeBiB, Universidad de Los Lagos, Chile
Dr. Alejandro H. Kim is Professor in at i-mar Research Centre and the Centre of Biotechnology and Bioengineering at The Universidad de Los Lagos, Chile. He has produced over 140 papers on macroalgae and sustainable development of aquaculture and presently is Associated Editor of Journal of Phycology, Journal of applied Phycology and Algal Research. Also Dr. Buschmann is a member of the Chilean Academy of Science and in 2018 he was awarded with the Honor in Scientia Marina given by the Chilean Marine Science Society for his scientific achievements.

Prof. David J. Garbary, St. Francis Xavier University, Canada
Dr. David Garbary is Professor of Biology at St. Francis Xavier University where he has been based for over 30 years and past editor of Phycologia. His primary research involves the ecology, physiology and cell biology of intertidal seaweeds, in particular symbioses involving the economically important Ascophyllum nodosum and its role in coastal production.

Paul Dobbins, Senior Director, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) , USA
Paul Dobbins is the Senior Director of Impact Investing and Ecosystems Services on the WWF-US Aquaculture team. He identifies companies for impact investment, stakeholder collaboration, and research opportunities that will accelerate the growth of seaweed and shellfish farming. Before joining WWF Paul operated shellfish farms and lead the development of the country’s first open ocean commercial kelp farms.

Prof. Schery Umanzor, University of Alaska Fairbanks, USA
Dr. Schery Umanzor is a Mariculture Faculty at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, USA. For the past 10 years, her research has focused on measuring the effects marine macroalgae as ecosystem engineers and assessing low-cost methods for seaweed restoration. She currently focuses on seaweed mariculture, looking at ways to optimize processes and evaluating ecosystem services provided by seaweed farms.

Dr. Jason Park , NIWA (National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research ltd), New Zealand
Dr Park is a senior wastewater scientist at NIWA in New Zealand. Over the last 20 years at NIWA, he has been working on algae-based natural wastewater treatment and diffuse pollution mitigation, and energy and nutrient recovery from wastewater treatment High Rate Algal Ponds. He has consistently published his research in leading international journals (21 as a lead author and 12 as a co-author) with >2500 citations.

Dr Palas Samanta is Assistant Professor of Environmental Science at Sukanta Mahavidyalaya, India. He is Ex-DST INSPIRE Fellow, GoI and Ex-BK 21 Plus Fellow, Korea. His research has focused on fate and toxicity analysis of environmental contaminants on aquatic organisms, pollution monitoring and risk assessment and environmentally sustainable aquaculture. Dr. Jianheng Zhang is Associate Professor of Marine Ecology and Environment at Shanghai Ocean University, China. A major emphasis of his research is long term succession of macroalgae under the effects of climate change in coastal ecosystems. Scott Lindell, Research Specialist Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), USA
Scott Lindell has dedicated 19 years to scientific research and development of shellfish and seaweed farming. He has managed multiple projects to bridge biological and engineering challenges including methods for combining mussel and seaweed farming, establishing a breeding and genetic improvement program for sugar kelp, and establishing large-scale demonstration kelp and tropical seaweed farms in the US.

Dr. Sauvage has over a decade of research and development experience in fundamental and applied marine science with key competencies in biogeochemistry, environmental chemistry and microbial ecology. Current projects include (i) the optimization of nutrient efficient microalgae cultivation practices, (ii) production of functional aquafeed ingredients from microalgae-bacteria systems, (iii) development of bioremediation and valorisation strategies of mariculture waste streams.
