KRW 2.7 billion project to develop and demonstrate AI-based personalized exercise recommendation service technology

Professor Dong-il Kim of the Dept. of Health & Kinesiology at Incheon National University has been selected for a new project under the 2026 Culture, Sports and Tourism R&D Program of the Korea Creative Content Agency as the principal investigator of a joint research and development institution.

The selected project is part of the “Personal Exercise Record Utilization Technology Development (R&D)” program, supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and managed by the Korea Creative Content Agency. The project is titled “Development and Demonstration of AI Service Technology for Analyzing the Effects of Personalized Exercise Recommendations.” Led by Genisoft Co., Ltd. as the main institution, the project will be carried out with a total budget of KRW 2.7 billion. Incheon National University will participate as a joint research and development institution and has secured approximately KRW 900 million in research funding. Over the next three years, the project will conduct living lab-based research on AI-powered personal exercise record analysis, effectiveness verification of personalized exercise recommendation services, and field demonstration.

At Incheon National University, Professor Dong-il Kim of the Dept. of Health & Kinesiology will participate as the principal investigator of the joint research and development institution, while Professor Moon-hyun Hwang of the Dept. of Health & Kinesiology will participate as a co-researcher. The main objective of the study is to develop a personalized exercise recommendation service using artificial intelligence (AI) based on individuals’ exercise records and health-related data, and to analyze and verify its effects in real-world settings. Through this, the research team plans to establish a precision exercise recommendation system that comprehensively reflects participants’ characteristics, fitness levels, health conditions, and exercise performance records, while laying the groundwork for data-driven sports and healthcare services.

This project is particularly significant in that it goes beyond simply providing exercise information by combining AI-based analysis technology using personal exercise records with field-based demonstration. It is expected to contribute to improving public health, promoting exercise participation, and accelerating the digital transformation of the sports and healthcare industries.

Professor Dong-il Kim stated, “This research aims to implement a more scientific and effective personalized exercise recommendation service based on individual exercise record data.” He added, “We will do our best to contribute to public health promotion and the development of future-oriented sports healthcare services by combining AI technology with evidence-based exercise science.”

Meanwhile, the Dept. of Health & Kinesiology at Incheon National University has been carrying out various research and demonstration projects in areas such as sports medicine, adaptive exercise rehabilitation, health promotion, and AI-based healthcare. Through this project, the department is expected to further strengthen its research capabilities in digital sports healthcare.
