Incheon International Development Cooperation Center (Head Tae-myeon Kwon) held ‘2018 Incheon ODA forum’, ‘Refugee Film Festival’, ‘Refugee talk concert’ with the theme of ‘Development cooperation with refugees’ for ‘Development Assistance Day’ at G tower, Song-do on November 23rd Friday.
At the ‘Refugee Film Festival’ there were three movies, including Paul Woo's "Limbo" and "The Unforgotten" and Chae Eui-seok's "The breath”
The ‘refugee talk concert’ was held to expand sympathy for the refugees by inviting them to talk about the reality of the country where they originated and the life of the refugees living in Korea. The Seoul Cyber University professor Kwon Gu-soon, who specializes in refugee fields, presided over a meeting and Abdul Wahab, secretary-general of ‘Help Syria’, and Se-jin Kim, a lawyer from the public law center participated as speaker. Kim Dae-sung, who starred in Superstar K5, also performed acoustic music.
The Incheon International Development Cooperation Center selected refugees as the subject of development cooperation in 2018 and held an international development cooperation forum jointly prepared with Human Asia. Following the welcoming speech by standing committee Sang-hwan Chung, director Jin-ho Song of the Korea International Cooperation Agency, and vice president Park Jong-tae of Incheon University, Frank Remus, the head of the represent Korea of the United Nations refugee agency, delivered a keynote speech.
The discussions followed include 'the actual condition of refugees in Korea and their policy direction (deputy director, refugee division of Ministry of Justice)’, ‘the situation of refugees in the world and their support status (Jane Williamson, Korean Representative for the United Nations refugee agency)’, 'KOICA's overseas aid project (Hyung-rae Cho, Multilateral Cooperation and Humanitarian Assistance Department)’, and ‘Activities of Korean Private Organizations to Support Overseas Refugees (Ki-nam Ki lawyer, Asian Dignity Initiative)’.
