German Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Stephen Auer will give a special lecture at INU on Nov. 20th (Wed). The lecture will be on the task of South Korea and Germany in the globalized age and discuss the current situation as this year celebrates the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall which was the symbol of the Cold War.
The lecture is open to everyone from INU and forms a part of the class 'Theory of Regional Studies and Reality' from Dept. of German Language & Literature. Simultaneous Interpretation will be provided throughout the lecture.
Prior to the lecture, Ambassador Auer will have a conversation with INU president Dong-sung Cho and the staffs from INU in charge. Prof. Jehyung Chang, Dean of German Language and Literature, said "Ambassador Auer will make a visit to INU and this lecture will be a big honor and a great opportunity for INU and students. I appreciate everyone who has made an effort to realize this opportunity".
INU German Language and Literature Department was founded on March 1, 1980. The department’s educational and research components include applied German language, German linguistic studies, German literature, German cultural studies, German regional studies, and European regional studies. The goal of the Department of German Language and Literature is the cultivation of advanced German scholars with both extensive theoretical knowledge and practical linguistic abilities and, with German language and culture as the basis comprehensive understanding of European culture (including politics, economics, and society) through extensive literature and linguistic studies. With the establishment of the European commerce joint-major program in 2003, German language and literature students have the opportunity to become European experts through coordinated learning of language and cultural studies with European and German management and trade.
Ambassador Auer to Korea started his career as a diplomat in 1990 in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany, followed by German Embassy in the UK, Saudi Arabia, Italy, European Union, and EEAS and he was designated as German Ambassador to the Republic of Korea in 2016. Ambassador Auer studied Law and Political Science at Rheinish Friedrich Wilhelm University of Bonn.
