The Society of Korean Smart Water Grid (President, Gyewoon Choi, Emeritus professor at INU) held the “2019 Smart Water Grid(SWG) International Conference” on Oct. 1st, 2019 in Songdo Convencia, Incheon.
The conference, which brought together scholars, officials in the water management field, students, and NGOs, was held under the theme of Smart Water in Global Changing Environment and had discussions to build smart water system within constantly changing the global environment in more than 70 discussion sessions with more than 450 people having presentations.
During the 2019 SWG International Conference, debates and discussions held in regards to a leading-edge technology of water management area, Incheon reddish tap water, Han River estuary management, education innovation of Water management area were especially highlighted and received the attention.
With the participation of approximately 1300 people from 20 countries including the US, Japan, China, the Czech Republic, Nepal, Indonesia, Vietnam, etc, discussions went on about various research results on water management, advanced water management techniques, and development in the water industry.
Through the opening address, Gyewoon Choi, the president of the Society of Korean Smart Water Grid, said “Smart Water Grid technology is widely being adopted in the real water management area since the concept was recently initiated through several processes including the 7th World Water Forum” and “ the improvement of water quality and the optimization of water infrastructure through monitoring water quantity and quality in the underground pipeline system including water treatment plants, is responsible for the strong improvement of the direct drinking rate from tap in the public water supply system”.
After the opening ceremony, Plenary speeches were delivered by Chairman of National Water Management Committee Jaeyoung Heo on the launch of National Water Management Committee and Establishment of Integrated Water Management, by Dr. Bindu N. Lohani, Vice-President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Future Water Industry including Global Trends, Challenges and Opportunities, and lastly by Dr Imam Santoso, Chairman of Indonesian Hydraulic Engineering Association, on Advancement of Water Resources Management in a Global Challange.
Park Chunkyoo, Vice-Minister of Environment of the Republic of Korea, delivered the Congratulatory Address and said that the conference is a great opportunity to discuss the key technology for tap water management and to set up a prevention system of the recurrence of Incheon reddish tap water. Jong-sik Heo, Vice Mayor of Incheon Metropolitan City, also wished success of the conference through congratulatory address and wished that the conference could finalize integrated water management and it could be a stepping stone for Incheon Metropolitan city with the title of safe and sound water circulating city.
SWG technology is collaborative technology between traditional water management and ICT(Information and Communication Technologies) and it is seen as a promising solution for resolving recent critical global water problems.
