On August 20th, the INU Global Bio-Convergence Forum was successfully held in Songdo Convensia with the participation of domestic and international researchers, entrepreneurs, INU students, and high school students.
Dong-sung Cho, president of INU, and Lee Byeong-gun, former chairman of the board of Korea Biotechnology Industry Organization and current CEO of SCM Life Science, delivered a congratulatory speech, followed by a keynote speech on human genome research by Kim Sung-ho, a distinguished chair professor at INU. Thirty research results, which integrated Biotechnology with several academic fields such as Humanities, Economy, Education, History, Fashion, Arts, Physical Education, Physics, Electrical Electronics, Information Technology, etc., were announced and caught attention.
INU Global Bio-Convergence Forum is one of the focal projects that INU emphasize to become a bio-focused university in Songdo International City which serves as a hub of Biotechnology Industry today. Through the forum, INU is expected to become a future engine for the growth of the nation, challenging a convergence of biology and other academics to carve out original fields of studies which will take the head of the Fourth Industrial Revolution Era.
INU recently built a bio-convergence research cluster and is giving its full support in order to expand bio-convergence related research and education. In addition, INU started a study on A.I. algorithm development, in 2019, in conjunction with Eone Diagnomics Genome Center Co., Ltd (EDGC). The study is to predict the degree of risk of diseases based on the analysis of 10,000 citizen’s genome from Incheon Metropolitan City in preparation for a customized medicine era. The lecture was offered to the public and promotional booths were set up to publicize the Nano-Bio Information Technology trends and possibility on the day of the forum.
“INU Global Bio-Convergence Forum was organized by Incheon Metropolitan City and formed a part of Bio Incheon Global Conference 2019 (Big C 2019), alongside Biopharmaceutical Conference conducted by Asian Federation of Biotechnology (AFOB) and Global Bio & Pharma Plaza 2019 by Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA). The Forum has been meaningful in that it contributed to promoting Biotechnology Industry in Incheon Metropolitan City and will be a great opportunity for INU to enhance its status as a leader of Bio-convergence research field,” said President Cho.
