PUL Welcome Speech
Good Morning, ladies and gentlemen. It is my great pleasure to speak to you this morning, to welcome you most cordially at the official opening of the 11th Meeting of the Port-city Universities League(PUL).
I would like to have this opportunity to pay tribute to the City of Incheon, the Incheon, the Incheon Port Authority(IPA), and local organizers for hosting this meeting and for having so generously devoted their time to ensuring that the preparations for the successful meeting have been undertaken.
As you know, arrangements for a meeting of this sort are very complex and difficult. This event is the culmination of enormous collective effort which has begun since 2006. Many institutions and individuals contributed dynamically towards the organization of the meeting.
Now, 15 universities that play a pivotal role in developing sustainable and resilient port-city are participating from 11 different countries. I firmly believe that the position of the PUL will become more important in improving maritime science technology, as well as pot related issues, including urban development, tourism, distribution, environment, resource, economy, and industry.
Ladies and gentlemen, in recent years, we have seen a significant increase of concern among the peoples of the world regarding the rational utilization of port environments, infrastructures, and resources. Our efforts with sophisticated technologies have continuously conserved and protected the ocean environment from the impact of rapid urbanization.
Even some we still have a long way to go, and I am sure that only through a joint effort on research and practice we shall be able to reach our fundamental goal.
Incheon National University will establish the “Port City Research Institution” and create interdisciplinary programs in our global campus by cooperating with the PUL universities. In this sense, I consider this eleventh meeting of the universities as taking on a transcendental role for the future of Smart Harbor City.
In closing, I would like to thank each of you for attending our meeting and bringing your expertise to our gathering. You as organization leaders and professors, have the vision, the knowledge, and the experience to help us pave our way into the future.
You are truly our greatest asset today and tomorrow, and we could not accomplish what we can do without your support and leadership. Throughout this 3-day meeting, I ask you to stay engaged, keep us proactive and help us shape the future of Port-city Universities League. My personal respect and thanks goes to all of you.
Thank you for your kind attention.
